You know what?
Normally I don't like Obama, personally I absolutely do not like his fiscal approach to our country. You must understand when it comes to politics, I am Fiscally Conservative and Socially Liberal. I guess that makes me a libertarian since I don't want goverment intrusion into my life but I do like the idea of there being a military etc.
I have been reading tons of articles lately regarding the new healthcare plan requiring ALL medical organizations to pay for birth control, this is a good thing. Sadly, the religious right and of course the idiot republicans can't leave anything alone. So, what do they do? Protest it!
Yes, let's protest responsible reproduction. Let's protest logical family planning. Let's protest lower population (we are getting overcrowded as it is), hell let's protest lower welfare roles since birth control could be MORE accessible to everyone!
Seems stupid to me. If you want to not use birth control, don't use it. I for one find the option of my insurance paying for it a GOOD THING.
Matter of fact, because I can't stand the religious right and their idiocy, I think I will be voting independant again!

Religion does NOT belong in politics
The major religious groups have finally done something RIGHT! Yes, I said it. Religious groups are doing something right. On Tuesday, the Anti-Defamation League, the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty and the Interfaith Alliance released a "Statement of Principles" regarding religion in political campaigns.
In this statement they warn that: "there is a point when an emphasis on religion becomes inappropriate and even unsettling in a religiously diverse society such as ours" THANK YOU! It's about time that everyone realized that RELIGION DOES NOT BELONG IN POLITICS!
This statement asks political candidates to:
•Attempt to fulfill the promise of America by seeking to serve and be responsive to the full range of constituents, irrespective of their religion.
•Conduct their campaigns without appeals, overt or implicit, for support based upon religion.
•Reject appeals or messages to voters that reflect religious prejudice, bias, or stereotyping.
•Engage in vigorous debate on important and disputed issues, without deliberately encouraging division in the electorate along religious lines, or between voters who characterize themselves as religious and voters who do not.
J. Brent Walker, executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty in a statement said: "Candidates do not have to check their religion at the door of the offices they seek. But they need to understand that they serve people of other faiths and of no faith. Resorting to religious language that sets people of faith against each other harms political discourse and sows religious discord."
This is great, finally even religious groups are starting to see that EVERYONE should be included in politics, not just the 'fringe religious groups' that the candidates are trying to get votes from.
Please, let your candidates know that RELIGION DOES NOT BELONG IN POLITICS. Religion if you choose to have one, belongs AT HOME.

The ACLJ is asking for you MONEY!
The ACLJ (American Center for Law and Justice),
A supposed group whose mission statement is: " ACLJ focuses on constitutional and human rights law worldwide. Based in Washington, D.C., with affiliated offices in Israel, Russia, Kenya, France, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, the ACLJ is pro-life and dedicated to the ideal that religious freedom and freedom of speech are inalienable, God-given rights for all people. The ACLJ engages legal, legislative, and cultural issues by implementing an effective strategy of advocacy, education, and litigation that includes representing clients before the Supreme Court of the United States and international tribunals around the globe."
Really what they are doing is performing a "money grab" for Jay Sekulow their lead council. The purport to help anyone that is experiencing "religious persecution" or is having their rights to religion impinged. Really, what they are doing is defending the rights of ONLY Evangelical Christians. Take the recent case in Hawaii where a Santoria church was barred from practicing their religion. Did the ACLJ jump in to help? NO! The Catholics, The Mormons and the ACLU jumped in and helped them since they saw this as impinging on EVERYONES Freedom of expression.
Where was the ACLJ? Nowhere, why? Because it wasn't a CHRISTIAN case! That's right people, if you aren't evangelical, don't bother contacting them, they aren't there for you, eventhough they CLAIM they are!
This isn't the big issue I have with them. The issue I have is this:
On their current radio and TV broadcasts they are asking their listeners to "sign a petition to save Pastor Yousef in Iran". When you call to sign their "petition" they ask you to donate $100 or more to help them in this fight. Now, we all know that Iran is NOT going to listen to a group of Evangelical crackpots and back off of executing ONE man in Iran! ACLJ is promising a "strongly worded letter" to Secretary of State Clinton urging her to pressure Iran to stop the execution. Guess what? If Iran won't stop building nuclear weapons, are they going to worry about a letter to Clinton? NO!
Save your money, feed your children and tell ACLJ and Jay Sekulow to Fuck off!
He doesn't need another house. (he has 3)
He doesn't need another car (he has several)
He already has a private plane.
He doesn't need to line his pool with gold.
He doesn't need your $$ to send a letter, he has enough for a fucking stamp!

You MUST learn about religion in SCHOOL!
This is more than sad. You can read the full article here:
After reading the article, I am glad I'm not raising my son in Canada. It's bad enough here that Faux News spouts the garbage they do and the 'Mormon Establishment' in Utah pushes their beliefs onto my son at school as it is. But in Canda they are now FORCING all children to learn about various religions in SCHOOL.
You can't opt out and have your children not be forced to be exposed the fairy tales that religion espouses. In the case in the article it's a Catholic family that didn't want their children forced to learn about other religions.
What about Atheist families? If we live in Canada we are now forced to have our children learning about religion in school? Last I checked, schools didn't force children to take a Grimms Fairy Tale course. Or a Let's learn about Santa, The Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy class. Why the forcing of religion down the throats of Canadian Children? If I were Canadian I would be looking to move somewhere, anywhere that didn't force my children to learn these often mind numbing and potentially damaging philosophies.
If you are going to force children to learn something make it, oh I don't know... SCIENCE or LOGIC or HISTORY. But Religion, if you want to lie and decieve your children, do it on your own damn time Canda, Don't do it on your childrens own preciously limited educational time.

The end of church?
It appears that more and more people in America are not going to church. Over the last few decades more and more people consider themselves "Non-Religious" as being religious is now considered a negative thing. People are leaving organized relgion in droves. More than 45% of people that only a decade ago considered themselves 'religious' now no longer do.
This is progress I say.

Now, only if they could find the logic and reason to walk away from it 100% the world would be a much better place with less war, less genocide and less overall stupidity.

Mormonism Not a Cult?
This is what passes for 'proof' that Mormonism isn't a cult in Austrailia:
I am going to quote pieces and then post my responses. My responses will be italisized.
THE Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) is not a cult but a recognised religion with more than 14 million members.
Incorrect! The church 'claims' 14 million members. More than 60% of that number are inactive or no longer attending Mormons. For example, there are large numbers of 'members' that are listed on the church roles, but haven't attended or 'paid tithes' in generations. They for whatever reason are either intimidated (job, family etc.) into staying 'members' or just haven't felt the need to actually have themselves removed from the roles of membership. ALSO, the Church claims ALL people babtized posthumously as 'members'. Not a real accurate accounting there.
It is not "an 18th century religious scam" but the result of the answer from God to a sincere prayer.
Again Incorrect! Joseph Smith was CONVICTED of "glass looking" (looking for buried treasure in the ground through a 'glass') when no treasure was ever found, he would claim that it "slipped away". The folks he scammed were quite justifiably irritated. Incidentally, the same 'glass' he used to look for buried treasure is the same 'glass' he used to 'translate' the BOM. Yes, folks the Urum and Thumum! Also, the BOM was first published as FICTION and when Joseph Smith FAILED to sell it "by Joseph Smith" he concocted the "religion" of Mormonism to 'sell his book'.
The church did not forbid African Americans from joining, although for a time African Americans were not able to receive the priesthood.
Partially true. The churh did not forbid African Americans from joining, it did however, forbid them from holding the priesthood or leadership roles in the church until the 1970's when the church was pressured by the US Govt. to change it's policies or LOSE it's Non-Profit status. African Americans were ONLY allowed to hold the priesthood for economic reasons INSIDE the church, NOT because God "felt that they were ready" etc. but so that the church could continue to draw MILLIONS in profits from it's followers and PAY nothing in taxes etc.
Matter of fact, in the first edition of the Journals of Discourses, then president Brigham Young stated that: "No Negroe shall ever hold the priesthood in Gods restored kingdom". Really brother Brigham? Really? Hmm. Guess God changed his mind, he does need that $$ afterall.

Let's list some definitions of a cult and see if the LDS Church isn't one? The checklist I am using can be found here:
The group displays excessively zealous and unquestioning commitment to its leader and (whether he is alive or dead) regards his belief system, ideology, and practices as the Truth, as law.

Questioning, doubt, and dissent are discouraged or even punished.
Check! Try questioning the Church with a member and see what happens.
Mind-altering practices (such as meditation, chanting, speaking in tongues, denunciation sessions, and debilitating work routines) are used in excess and serve to suppress doubts about the group and its leader(s).
Ever go to Sacrament meeting? Ever have to do your "volunteer work"? How about the 'sessions' in the Temple? .... CHECK!
The leadership dictates, sometimes in great detail, how members should think, act, and feel (for example, members must get permission to date, change jobs, marry—or leaders prescribe what types of clothes to wear, where to live, whether or not to have children, how to discipline children, and so forth).
Let's see... WOW, General Conference (earrings prophesy) Every meeting you attend as a Mormon? CHECK!
The group is elitist, claiming a special, exalted status for itself, its leader(s) and members (for example, the leader is considered the Messiah, a special being, an avatar—or the group and/or the leader is on a special mission to save humanity).
Know what? I don't even have to say anything here. If you know anything about the Church, this one sticks out like a sore thumb! CHECK!
The group has a polarized us-versus-them mentality, which may cause conflict with the wider society.
Just read the post above again and see if you don't see it for yourself?
The leader is not accountable to any authorities (unlike, for example, teachers, military commanders or ministers, priests, monks, and rabbis of mainstream religious denominations).
Joseph Smith, Brigham Young? Ummm. CHECK!
The group teaches or implies that its supposedly exalted ends justify whatever means it deems necessary. This may result in members' participating in behaviors or activities they would have considered reprehensible or unethical before joining the group (for example, lying to family or friends, or collecting money for bogus charities).
Mountain Meadows Massacre anyone? Bishops interviews? Fast offerings? CHECK!
The leadership induces feelings of shame and/or guilt iin order to influence and/or control members. Often, this is done through peer pressure and subtle forms of persuasion.
If you were ever Mormon you know this one ALL TOO WELL. The entire life of a 'member' is built on guilt and peer pressure. As a Mormon, you do EVERYTHING possible to appear the way you are told to, to the members and your Bishop.
Subservience to the leader or group requires members to cut ties with family and friends, and radically alter the personal goals and activities they had before joining the group.
If you are a member, leave the church and tell your family you are doing so and see what happens. You will find yourself ostrasized and left out. I KNOW I have done this and many other former mormons have done this.
The group is preoccupied with bringing in new members.
Missionaries? Every Sunday you hear about how "every member is a missionary" and consistently you are told to go out and find new members to bring into the church.
The group is preoccupied with making money.
This one is obvious. Just try NOT paying your tithing and see what happens with the Bishop. You will LOSE your Temple Rights and of course be called into the Bishop's office to discuss YOUR personal financial situation with someone that just wants your 10%. My own sister in law was told to pay her tithing EVEN though that would cause her to get BEHIND on her mortgage. The church would rather it's members were homeless than lose 10% from one member!
Members are expected to devote inordinate amounts of time to the group and group-related activities.
Oh, it's all 'volunteer' work but you will be expected to spend the bulk of your free time NOT with your family but doing 'work' for the church!
Members are encouraged or required to live and/or socialize only with other group members.
This is true, UNLESS you are out proselyting for new members, then it is acceptable.
The most loyal members (the “true believers”) feel there can be no life outside the context of the group. They believe there is no other way to be, and often fear reprisals to themselves or others if they leave (or even consider leaving) the group.
Again, try leaving and see what happens. I have known people that when they left the church, lost their jobs, their homes and in several cases their spouses and children to the CHURCH.
By my count, it SURE looks like the Mormon Church qualifies as a cult! If you can disprove this, please feel free to. IF you agree with me, feel free to repost this EVERYWHERE. (A little credit would be nice though).

This time he is attempting to attack Evolution as a fairy tale? Hmmm. I'm not an Evolutionary Scientist by any means so I am not going to try pretend to be one. It's interesting that he is saying that churches that are CHOOSING to celebrate "Evolution Week" should also have a "Cinderella Sunday" since they are celebrating 'fairy tales'.
Now THAT is ironic! I thought religion in general was about fairy tales. I thought every Sunday was a "Cinderella Sunday". Was I wrong? Don't people of all faiths celebrate their fantasies every Sunday?

The FACT that we can see evolution from one generation to the next in all sorts of organisms from the smallest bacteria to apes and let's not forget HUMANS! For example, it is undisputed fact that all human life came from the African continent some millions of years ago, yet there are diverse groups (races) of individual HUMANS all over the planet that have EVOLVED to have different traits from facial structure to skin pigmentation. How do you discredit this PROOF of evolution Ray? I will tell you how, by going to the most fantastic novel ever written and quoting it! Tower of Babel anyone? His ONLY proof to discredit this is an obscure story of people building a tower to heaven, a tower that archeology CANNOT find anywhere on the planet. A tower that would have been so incredibly tall that there would have to have been SOME remnants of it somewhere, but alas, NOTHING.
“The institutions that embrace the theory of evolution need to come out of the closet and stop pretending to be Christian. Either we believe Jesus when He said, ‘In the beginning God created male and female’ or we don’t. Biblical truth and the fairytale of evolution are incompatible,” Comfort said.
Given that the Bible was WRITTEN some 3,000 years ago and BORROWS many of the stories of creation etc. from the Mesopotamian cultures as well as Egyptian mythos, how is THAT fact? It's NOT Ray. Prove me wrong. The Mesopotamian culture wrote of creation LONG BEFORE the Christian Bible was even a thought! How can the Bible be factual yet you would have us believe that cultures that had the SAME stories PRIOR to the Bible's existence are false? Ray, WAKE up! You are an IDIOT!

Atheism almost always embraces Darwinian evolution, which would have people believe that they are merely animals, and that there are no moral absolutes. I have been going to universities and challenging students to convince me that evolution has a scientific basis. No one can offer any proof, because Darwin’s evolution is scientifically baseless. All they have are theories that have to be received in blind faith,” he said.
So Ray is going to Universities and challenging the Students? What about the Professors? Oh, Wait! He wouldn't do THAT because a Professor of science WOULD discredit him and PROVE him to be the MORON that he is. He asks you to PROVE to him scientifically that Evolution makes sense, but then when YOU ask him to prove that God exists, he ASKS you to take it on "blind faith" his words, Not mine!
